(Huronian Ice Age)
There have been at least five major ice ages in the
earth's past (the Huronian, Cryogenian,
Andean-Saharan, Karoo Ice Age and the Quaternary
glaciation). Outside these ages, the Earth seems to
have been ice-free even in high latitudes.

Rocks from the earliest well established ice age,
called the Huronian, formed around 2.4 to 2.1 Ga
(billion years) ago during the early Proterozoic Eon.

(Cryogenian Ice
Age)
The next well-documented ice age, and probably the most severe of the last billion
years, occurred from 850 to 630 million years ago (the Cryogenian period) and
may have produced a Snowball Earth in which glacial ice sheets reached the
equator, possibly being ended by the accumulation of greenhouse gases such as
CO2 produced by volcanoes.

(Karoo Ice Age)
The evolution of land plants at the onset of the Devonian period caused a long term
increase in planetary oxygen levels and reduction of CO2 levels, which resulted in
the Karoo Ice Age. It is named after the glacial tills found in the Karoo region of
South Africa, where evidence for this ice age was first clearly identified. There were
extensive polar ice caps at intervals from 360 to 260 million years ago in South
Africa during the Carboniferous and early Permian Periods.

Yohannes Haile-Selassie and other scientists announced October 1, 2009, the
discovery of the oldest fossil skeleton of a human ancestor.
Ardipithecus
ramidus
—belonged to a small-brained, 110-pound (50-kilogram) female
nicknamed
"Ardi."

The Ardipithecus ramidus fossils were discovered in Ethiopia's harsh Afar desert
at a site called Aramis in the Middle Awash region, just 46 miles (74 kilometers)
from where Lucy's species, Australopithecus afarensis, was found in 1974.
Radiometric dating of two layers of volcanic ash that tightly sandwiched the fossil
deposits revealed that Ardi lived 4.4 million years ago.

Perhaps the world's most famous early human ancestor, the
3.2-million-year-old ape
"Lucy" was the first
Australopithecus afarensis skeleton ever found, though her
remains are only about 40 percent complete (photo of
Lucy's bones).

Discovered in 1974 by paleontologist Donald C. Johanson in
Hadar, Ethiopia, A. afarensis was for about 20 years the
earliest known human ancestor species.

(Quaternary
Glaciation)
The current ice age, the Pliocene-Quaternary glaciation, started about 2.58 million
years ago during the late Pliocene, when the spread of ice sheets in the Northern
Hemisphere began. Since then, the world has seen cycles of glaciation with ice
sheets advancing and retreating on 40,000- and 100,000-year time scales called
glacial periods, glacials or glacial advances, and interglacial periods, interglacials
or glacial retreats. The earth is currently in an interglacial, and the last glacial
period ended about 10,000 years ago. All that remains of the continental ice sheets
are the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and smaller glaciers such as on Baffin
Island.

Amenhotep l

Ahmose’s son and successor, Amenhotep I (ruled c. 1514–1493 BCE), pushed the
Egyptian frontier southward to the Third Cataract, near the capital of the Karmah
(Kerma) state, while also gathering tribute from his Asiatic possessions and
perhaps campaigning in Syria. The emerging kingdom of Mitanni in northern Syria,
which is first mentioned on a stela of one of Amenhotep’s soldiers and was also
known by the name of Nahrin, may have threatened Egypt’s conquests to the north

The mysterious Olmec civilization prospered in Pre-Classical (Formative)
Mesoamerica from c. 1200 BCE to c. 400 BCE and is generally considered the
forerunner of all subsequent Mesoamerican cultures such as the Maya and Aztecs.
Centred in the Gulf of Mexico (now the states of Veracruz and Tabasco) their
influence and trade activity spread from 1200 BCE, even reaching as far south as
present-day Nicaragua. Monumental sacred complexes, massive stone sculpture,
ball games, chocolate drinking and animal gods were features of Olmec culture
which would be passed on to all those who followed this first great Mesoamerican
civilization.

Emperor Haile Selassie I ~ The Crown Council of Ethiopia*
* The Crown Council of Ethiopia represents the Emperor during an interregnum,
such as the one experienced since Our Emperor was deposed in 1974.

----- excerpt from the Kebra Negast -----

How Queen Makeda Made Her Son King of Ethiopia

On the third day of the celebrations Makeda delivered over to her son seventeen
thousand chosen horses, which were to watch the army of the enemy, and one
thousand chosen mules, apparel of honour, gold and silver measured by the omer;
and she delivered over to her son everything that was his by law, and the throne of
her kingdom.

And the Queen said unto her nobles: "Speak ye now, and swear by the heavenly
Zion that ye will not make women queens or set them upon the throne of the
kingdom of Ethiopia, and that no one except the male seed of David, the son of
Solomon the King, shall ever reign over Ethiopia, and that ye will never make
women queens."  And all the nobles of the king's house swore, also the governors,
the councillors and the administrators.

And she made Almeyas and Azariah the chief of the priests and the chief of the
deacons, and the sons of the mighty men of Israel performed the Law, together
with their King David in the Tabernacle of Witness...
and the kingdom was made
anew.
